All about adoption

Adoption is a wonderful way to find a new pet. Not only are you able to chose from many different animals. Shelters are not like a breeder and we don’t always know what “breed an animal is and have to make a best guess. That in itself is part of excitement. The absolute best part of adoption is that not only are you gaining a new best friend, you are saving 2 animals lives! The 1st is the one that you take home and the 2nd is the animal who takes the free spot in the shelter. Here on our website you will find information about adopting, the process to adopt an animal from our shelter and see a listing of the animals that we have available at this time.

Having a hard time deciding what animal you would like to take home?

We have some great information that you may find helpful.

Here at our facility we have an application process that must be completed prior to adoption. It is short and usually can be completed the same day you adopt unless there are circumstances beyond our control. The application is really more of a “get to know you” process so that we can help find the right companion that fits your family and lifestyle. This application can be done before or after you visit with our animals and find one that you are interested in adopting.

We provide basic medical care for our animals prior to adoption. All care that we have provided is included in their adoption fees. When adopted we ask that you take your new companion to a licensed veterinarian for a health check up within 7 days. By doing so, we are able to offer a basic health guarantee which we will go over with you at the time of adoption.

Our adoption fee for dogs is $200

For dogs with special needs $150

Special needs dogs are those who have been at the shelter for longer than one year, those with medical conditions, and those who are over the age of 6 years. This isn’t because we believe them to be worth less but we believe that by decreasing their adoption fee it will hopefully help offset any potential initial costs for their new family or increase their chance for adoption.

The adoption fee includes:

  • Heartworm Testing (if over 6 months of age).
  • Found Animal Registry Microchip implanted, registration is included.
  • Fully vaccinated based on age and length of time here. All animals must have a rabies vaccination prior to adoption if over the age of 4 months old. If this has not been done yet and appointment must be made and the cost of the vaccination CAN be included in the adoption fee under most circumstances. This will be discussed at the time of adoption.
  • Internal parasite control for most commonly seen parasites.
  • Monthly heartworm and flea prevention.
  • Most animals are spayed or neutered. If this procedure is not already done at the time of adoption, an appointment must be made and the cost of this procedure CAN be included in the cost of adoption under most circumstances. This will be discussed at the time of adoption.
