Physical Items:
We would gladly accept items from our Donation Wish List either by drop-off at the shelter or by shipment to the shelter. There is also a covered donation box by the front door that can accept items that are not sensitive to hot or cold weather. If you are buying items online for shipping to the shelter, please make sure to include 95hssi@gmail.com on shipment notifications, so that we know to be on the look-out for your generous gift. If you have something not on our wish list that you would like to donate, please give us a call, or send an email to inquire.

Estate Planning:
There are many ways in which HSSI could be included in your estate planning: one might choose to name HSSI as a recipient of goods or assets in their will, contribute a charitable rollover from an IRA, establish a financial legacy through a community foundation, donate appreciated stock, plus many more options. HSSI is available as a charitable organization recipient on Kroger Community Rewards under the name “Humane Society of S. Illinois,” Organization Number YR519. Board Membership:
As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, HSSI is governed by a board of directors. We do ask that board members reside in Southern Illinois, and be able to attend regular board meetings on a consistent basis. Meetings are usually held once a month in Carbondale or Murphysboro, generally somewhere where we can get food, and are after most working schedules. Board membership is unpaid; however, members may take part in committee work, volunteer to work events, help out at the shelter, provide repairs(if possible) and offer their time and expertise on a volunteer basis. We LOVE people who love animals and want the best for them, so if this sounds like you, please reach out to us, as we would love to have you!
Volunteering:
We would not be able to provide the services we do without some amazing volunteers! There are many ways you can volunteer, helping at the shelter, walking dogs, fostering, helping out at events, or even helping with simple things like transports or sharing our posts on social media.
