Thank you for trying to reunite an animal with its owner!
Animal in Your Possession: If you have the animal in your possession, please fill out our Found Animal Report. It asks for basic information about you and the animal, so that we can try to match it against Lost Animal Reports and animals in our care. The more you can tell us about when and where you found it, and what kind of features it has, the more confident we can be in making a match.
Deceased Animals: To report an animal that you know is deceased but you believe was someone’s pet, please use our Basic Contact form to describe the animal and its location. We will do our best to match it with any lost animal reports.
Roaming Animals: If you’ve seen an animal roaming free that you believe might be someone’s pet, please contact your local animal control.
Caring for a Found Animal: If you are able to continue caring for the animal, please have it scanned for a microchip at your earliest convenience. We would gladly scan it during our regular office hours, but please call first. We do not charge for this service, and many veterinarians would also scan an animal at no charge.
Surrender a Found Animal to HSSI: If you are unable to care for the animal, please call us to make an appointment to surrender it.
Notice: HSSI’s shelter at 95 Humane Road in Murphysboro is a euthanizing facility. Surrendered animals usually have one of three outcomes: adoption, rescue, or humane euthanasia. All releases of animals to HSSI are final. We will not share any information regarding an animal’s outcome.
